Preston North End Community and Education Trust’s secondary school provision programme is for KS3 and KS4 students who may benefit from working in a sporting environment, providing bespoke qualifications. We enrol Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11.
The programme is designed for hard-to-reach KS3 and KS4 students who are disengaged with their school-based studies, lacking in confidence or self-esteem or displaying poor attendance in the standard school environment.
The Trust is now offering a range of courses that help to keep students engaged in their work and maintain their focus, also providing opportunities to learn new skills, too.
Students can choose to study with Preston North End as one of their GCSE options with a two-year course in sport or enterprise available, contributing to their progress eight score.
Under the progress eight programme, pupils will study a combined Level 1 and Level 2 course that contributes in Department for Education tables in 2020, 2021 and 2022. Update to counts in 2024 and 2025 measures.
“PNE helped me realise I could achieve and be successful even during a difficult time. The staff understood my circumstances and were very approachable and supported me to gain a qualification to progress onto college and play semi-professional football.”
Learners not studying under the progress eight format can also enrol on a course at Preston North End with a Level 1 certificate in sport or a Level 1 certificate in enterprise.
All courses are partly based in classrooms situated at Deepdale or at the club’s community training centre. Alternatively, courses can be delivered to students at school.
Courses are carried out on a one day per week basis, either with one full day or a half day either in the morning or afternoon. School delivery will be conducted for two to three hours each week.
